By the end of March, Italy had two fully functioning ecological flower bio-farms, actively maintained by students and integrated into school and community life. But the results went far beyond the physical spaces.
Four open lessons were delivered on-site, combining practical work with guided discussions on biodiversity, stewardship, and sustainable lifestyles. Three additional eco-initiatives - a seminar on bad habits, a training on separate waste collection, and a park clean-up in Rome - reinforced the link between sustainability, health, and civic responsibility.
Participation expanded beyond the initially planned target group. Parents, municipal representatives, local volunteers, and in Rome, senior citizens, actively joined the activities. This intergenerational approach strengthened community ownership and ensured long-term care for the farms.
The impact was fantastic: together we improved student wellbeing, increased parental involvement, stronger cooperation with local authorities, and a significant reduction in school drop-outs.
Most importantly, the Italian activities showed how student-led green practices, when placed in visible public spaces, can grow into lasting community partnerships - just like the flowers themselves. 🌸
