“I Didn’t Know Planting Flowers Could Teach You This Much”

At first, I thought we were “just planting flowers”. Tulips don’t sound very complicated, right? But after a few weeks at La Torretta Park, I realized this project was about much more than that.
We learned how to prepare the soil properly, how deep to plant the bulbs, and why timing and seasonality really matter. But the biggest surprise was how public everything felt. People walking through the park stopped to ask questions. Some older people who come to the park every day started giving us advice - and honestly, they knew a lot!
Sometimes the weather didn’t cooperate, so we continued the lessons inside our Sunday school. Those moments were important because we could reflect on why we were doing this - not just how. We talked about responsibility, about caring for something that doesn’t belong only to you, and about how small actions in public spaces actually matter.
Now when I walk past the park, I don’t just see flowers. I see something we built together - and something we have to keep caring for.
